Child Hurt in Coney Island Amusement Park Ride
A 5-year-old boy has suffered injuries to his left leg and head after falling off a kiddie ride at an amusement park in Brooklyn, New York.
Police say the boy is expected to survive and is in stable condition at Bellevue Hospital.
Police say the incident happened just before 7 p.m. Wednesday on the Sea Serpent Roller Coaster kiddie ride at Deno’s Wonder Wheel Amusement Park in Coney Island.
Police are investigating whether the child may have tried to climb out of the ride before it finished.
A representative for the park did not immediately return a call requesting comment. But park co-owner Dennis Vourderis tells WABC-TV the boy met the 36-inch height requirement for the Sea Serpent.
He says there hasn’t been an accident at the ride in its 15-year history.
