Flooding Damages 70 Homes in Buffalo Suburb
Residents in a suburban Buffalo, N.Y., neighborhood are dealing with the aftermath of weekend flooding that has left dozens of homes damaged.
Local media outlets report that about 70 homes in West Seneca’s Lexington Green section sustained damage when Buffalo Creek overflowed its banks Saturday night.
Several feet of water was reported on some roads and basements as large chunks of ice from the creek wound up on the streets.
Officials say most people remained in their homes and worked on cleaning up their properties Sunday, but about a dozen sought shelter at a warming station set up at fire station.
The polar vortex that hit the region last week brought blizzard conditions to western New York, dumping nearly two feet of snow on some areas.
