Connecticut Man Sentenced in Hole-in-One Prize Scams

A Connecticut businessman who pleaded guilty to defrauding golf tournaments by failing to pay golfers hole-in-one prizes insured by his company has been sentenced to three months in jail plus $15,000 in restitution.

The Seattle Times reports Kevin Kolenda was sentenced in King County Superior Court on Friday. He was given credit for time already served and released.

The 56-year-old pleaded guilty to two counts of selling insurance without a license and one count of first-degree theft four months ago.

He was extradited from his home town of Norwalk, Conn., to Washington state in 2013 after he failed to show up for a court hearing in 2012.

He has been charged with failing to pay prizes in several states, including last year in Montana.
