Richmond Reports Workplace Deaths Up in 2012
Federal figures show workplace fatalities increased in the Richmond, Va., metropolitan statistical area in 2012.
During the same period, work-related fatal injuries declined in the Virginia Beach-Norfolk-Newport News metropolitan statistical area, or MSA.
Preliminary figures released Tuesday by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics show 26 people died from work-related injuries in the Richmond MSA in 2012. That’s up from 17 in 2011.
The bureau says the highest number of fatalities, six, occurred in the transportation and warehousing sector.
The Virginia Beach-Norfolk-Newport News MSA recorded 19 workplace fatalities, compared to 21 in 2011. The construction sector had the highest number of fatalities with nine.
