Boston Building Floor Collapse Injures 2

Authorities say two workers were injured when the 12th story of a building under construction in Boston, Mass., collapsed to the fifth floor.

A spokesman for city Emergency Medical Services says one worker suffered minor injuries, while another suffered more serious, but not life threatening, injuries. Both were hospitalized.

No names were released.

A police spokeswoman says they got a call just before 8 a.m. Thursday for a floor collapse at a building on Lagrange Street in the city’s Chinatown neighborhood.

Deputy Fire Chief Robert Calobrisi says the collapse was caused by a “dead load” that caused the floors to “pancake.”

Although everyone who was in the building is accounted for, searchers were still going through it just in case.

The building is intended to be a 33-story residential structure.
