2 Workers Injured During Boston Bridge Repair
Two construction workers have been injured while laying cement 35 feet below the historic Longfellow Bridge that leads from Boston to Cambridge.
Boston Fire Department spokesman Steve MacDonald says the men were taken to a hospital Monday afternoon with non-life-threatening injuries. The century-old landmark bridge is undergoing a three-year renovation.
MacDonald said the workers were receiving cement from above when the cement chute gave way and fell on top of them.
He said the men were working inside an empty construction shaft several feet under the bridge when the accident occurred.
MacDonald says due to their injuries and the narrow size of the shaft they had to be lifted up by firefighters using a crane already on scene.
