Cape Cod Contractors Admit to Scam, Shoddy Workmanship
A Massachusetts father and son have been sentenced to two years each in prison after pleading guilty to scamming an 87-year-old Dennis woman out of about $20,000.
Authorities say 53-year-old William Woods, of Sandwich, and 28-year-old William Woods Jr., of Harwich, offered to fix the woman’s deck, shower, some windows and other items around her house.
The Cape Cod Times reports that the woman began giving them checks that during the course of last summer added up to about $20,000.
The victim’s daughter called police to say she suspected her mother was being scammed by her contractors.
A building inspector found most of work done by the Woodses was incomplete or incorrect.
They were sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty to larceny on a disabled person over 60 and conspiracy.
