Husband Settles Wrongful Death Lawsuit in Wife’s Virginia Jail Death
A man whose wife died in the Virginia Beach Correctional Center has settled a wrongful death lawsuit.
David LaClair agreed to the settlement with jail medical provider Conmed Inc. and three nurses who were in charge of Jacquelynn Schwartz’s care.
The Virginian-Pilot reports a Newport News circuit judge approved the settlement last month. The terms weren’t disclosed.
LaClair and Schwartz were married less than two months when she died at the jail on July 18, 2011.
A judge had jailed Schwartz for contempt after she arrived to settle a traffic matter with alcohol in her system.
An autopsy showed she died after choking on her plastic identification bracelet.
