Vermont Police Begin Patrol for Impaired Drivers
The Vermont Governor’s Highway Safety Program says law enforcement around the state will be patrolling for impaired drivers through the Labor Day weekend.
The efforts are part of the national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign.
Officials say several officers have received training to recognize drivers under the influence of drugs, which is a growing problem.
Police will be setting up sobriety and safety checkpoints in high-risk areas both night and day.
Officials say impaired drivers are involved in nearly half of the serious injury and fatal crashes in the state.
