Driver Charged in Connecticut Hit-and-Run Unlicensed and Uninsured
Police say a Waterbury, Conn., man accused in a hit-and-run accident that left a bicyclist dead was unlicensed, uninsured and wanted for a hit-and-run four years ago.
The Republican-American reports that Israel Diaz was arraigned Tuesday in Waterbury Superior Court on charges of evading responsibility, operating an unregistered vehicle, having insufficient insurance and operating without a license.
He was held on bond of more than $300,000.
Police say the SUV slowed slightly, but kept driving after the accident. Police found the SUV with help from a witness who got the license plate number.
Police say 18-year-old Eric Delage was hit by an SUV driven by Diaz and struck by a minivan.
Authorities say the impact from the van appeared to have caused Delage’s death. Police are looking for that vehicle.
