New Jersey Legislation Outlines How State Will Dole Out Disaster Aid
New rules would direct how New Jersey distributes disaster aid.
The Assembly on Thursday is scheduled to consider a bill that would require the governor to deliver federal aid to disaster victims in proportion to the damage suffered in each municipality.
The bill stems from Superstorm Sandy, which destroyed houses and businesses along the coast in October 2012.
Lawmakers say many residents in the nine most affected counties have received federal aid, but some residents still have not gotten any help.
They also criticized Gov. Chris Christie’s administration for doling out aid to communities in the state that were hardly hit by Sandy.
