AXA Announces SE Asia Relief Effort; Will Match Employee Donations to $1.35 Million
France’s AXA Group has announced plans to aid the victims of the tsunamis that struck Southeast Asia.
“Faced with the scale of human tragedy that has impacted the countries of Southeast Asia in the wake of the tsunami disaster of the 26th December, the AXA Group offers to help the victims, reflecting in this way the spontaneous generosity of its employees across the world, who have made individual donations,” said the bulletin.
The company’s first step will assist its employees who wish to make donations, by setting up dedicated accounts in each country in which AXA operates. The total amount collected by employees will then be transferred to humanitarian organizations selected locally. AXA said it “will match employees’ individual donations by donating at least 1 million euros [$1.35 million] to humanitarian emergency relief efforts.”
The bulletin also noted: “To the best of our knowledge, we have no reports of any casualties among our employees,” and stressed the company’s commitment to helping the people in the stricken countries recover from the disaster.
The group also indicated that “in the spirit of AXA’s business, financial protection, the Group will provide financial support and expertise to the development of an advanced warning system to prevent the recurrence of such a human tragedy.”
The AXA Group, a worldwide leader in financial protection, has operations and employees in Indonesia, Thailand and India.
