S&P Hosts Teleconference on Global Warming Financial Impact Today
Standard & Poor’s Ratings Services will host a teleconference today, May 15, 2007, outlining the findings from a 15 article series from the May 23rd issue of CreditWeek, its weekly outlook on credit risk.
The call and articles will discuss the financial viability of a variety of energy and emissions strategies, as well as in-depth examinations of a number of alternative energy sources. S&P noted that analysts from all sectors of its research team, “including from the Utilities, Financial Institutions, Automotive, Public Finance and Economics teams, contributed to the special issue of CreditWeek.”
Steve Dreyer, Managing Director, Standard & Poor’s Utility, Power & Project Finance Ratings noted: “The last twelve months has marked the period when climate change moved from the political pages to the business section. Companies that previously wondered if they might be compelled to curb emissions now wonder how much and how quickly will they have to do it.”
In addition he indicated that S&P “feels that now is the time to examine the financial and credit impact of the different strategies, technologies, fuels and legislative agendas being discussed in the market.”
Today’s conference call will commence at 11:00 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time to discuss the Special CreditWeek Report, “The Credit Impact of Climate Change.” Speakers include Swami Venkataraman and Peter Kernan from S&P’s utility team, Maria Bissinger and Gregg Lemos-Stein, from the automotive team, Damien Magarelli, from the insurance group, and S&P’s chief economist David Wyss, PhD. At the conclusion of their remarks, they will be available to answer questions.
