Greece: Arsonists Target Insurance Company Ahead of Labor Protest
Arsonists damaged the offices of an insurance company before a strike and labor protests against the pension reforms planned by Greece’s convservative government.
Police said the offices of the Interamerican insurance company in Athens were damaged when a group of youths smashed the ground-floor windows and hurled petrol bombs into the building.
No group claimed responsibility for the attack in the capital’s Alimos area.
Anarchist groups frequently carry out arson attacks in Athens against the property of government departments, large businesses and diplomatic missions.
Late Monday, the offices of a government employment agency were also damaged in a petrol-bomb attack.
The 24-hour strike by Greece’s largest labor unions Wednesday is set to ground flights at all Greek airports as well as public services and transport.
