Taiwan Issues Warning for Typhoon Nuri
Taiwan has issued a warning for ships traveling through its southern waters Tuesday as Typhoon Nuri approached the island.
Nuri’s center was located about 466 miles (740 kilometers) southeast of Taiwan’s southern tip as of 11:30 a.m. local time (0330 GMT) Tuesday, the Central Weather Bureau said.
Packing winds of 79 miles per hour (126 kilometers), the typhoon is moving northwest toward Taiwan at a speed of 18 mph (29 kph), it said.
If the storm stays on its current course, the island could be affected Thursday morning, the bureau said.
