Storm Leaves 7 Dead, 4 Missing in Philippines
A tropical storm has unleashed floods and landslides that have left at least seven people dead in the northeastern Philippine province of Albay.
Albay Gov. Joey Salceda says three children have died in a landslide in a mountainside village, while two men were pinned to death by a fallen tree. Two other men died in storm-related accidents.
Salceda says four men were reported missing after Tropical Storm Nock-ten flooded most of Albay’s 15 farming towns and three cities.
He says Tuesday’s storm caused power outages and forced the cancellation of classes.
Forecasters say Nock-ten is packing sustained winds of 40 miles (65 kilometers) per hour and gusts of 50 mph (80 kph).
