Landslide Kills 4, Leaves 30 Missing in Indonesia
A government official says a landslide in western Indonesia has killed four villagers and left 30 others missing.
Sutopo Purwo Nugroho of the Disaster Management Agency says the landslide Wednesday buried 37 houses in the district of Nias Selatan in North Sumatra province.
He added that four cars and 25 motorcycles were damaged.
Local government agencies are coordinating the search effort and other emergency work.
Sutopo did not specify the cause of landslide.
But Indonesia is a vast archipelago with millions of people living on mountains or near fertile flood plains, and seasonal downpours here often cause landslides and flash floods.
