UK Robbers Make Off with Rare Champagne Worth $31K
It’s time to pop open a bottle of bubbly for the holiday season – and it seems some people are willing to risk going to jail to get their hands on some.
British police say that thieves have broken into a wine warehouse and stolen rare champagne worth 20,000 pounds (US$31,100).
Police in Essex, near London, said Tuesday that they believe the robbers used a stolen key fob to break into the warehouse on Saturday evening. They stole a number of bottles of champagne, including rare bottles named after the American jazz singer Josephine Baker.
Officer Jennifer Payne said that the rare champagne is not sold anywhere else in Britain and urged anyone who comes across the bottles to report it to police.
