Bus Collides With Truck in East China, Killing 23
A state news agency says at least 23 people were killed when a bus collided head-on with a truck in eastern China in the latest serious accident on the country’s chaotic roads.
Xinhua News Agency says the accident happened Thursday morning in Suzhou city in Anhui province. It says the truck was carrying a load of sand when the collision happened.
Xinhua says no immediate cause of the accident was given by police. The number of passengers on the bus is also not known.
Road safety is a serious problem in China. According to Xinhua, poorly maintained roads and bad driving habits result in about 70,000 deaths and 300,000 injuries a year.
