Thai Police Arrest 4 Suspects in $1M Gem Heist
Thai police have arrested suspects from four nations in connection with a $1 million heist at a jewelry fair.
Police Lt. Col. Jamroon Plaiduang said Tuesday a Mexican man, a Turkish man, a Malaysian woman and a Thai man were arrested on suspicion of involvement in the robbery in Phuket, a popular tourist destination 680 kilometers (420 miles) south of Bangkok.
He said the group is suspected of stealing two bags of diamond, gold and gem accessories worth 30 million baht ($1 million) on Monday from a van parked at a Phuket shopping mall. The gems were to be displayed and sold at a jewelry fair.
Jamroon said 430 of the 600 pieces of jewelry had been retrieved from the suspects. He said police are still looking for another suspect, a Caucasian.
