Collapse at Shanghai Construction Site Kills 5
Chinese authorities say five workers were killed and 18 injured in Shanghai at a construction site for a parking lot being built to support a new metro line.
Shanghai’s Work Safety Administration said on its microblog that a concrete structure at the parking lot in the eastern district of Pudong collapsed about 9 p.m. on New Year’s Eve.
Chinese state media say the cause of the collapse remains under investigation.
Safety at construction sites remains a challenge in China, where regulations are often ignored.
