Endurance Specialty Holdings Appoints Engel as Chief Claims Officer
Endurance Specialty Holdings Ltd., a Bermuda-based specialty provider of property/casualty insurance and reinsurance, appointed James Engel as chief claims officer with responsibility for the overall strategic direction of the company’s global claims operation.
Engel joins Endurance with significant experience leading and advancing the capabilities of large, complex claims organizations, Endurance said in a statement. He is based in Endurance’s New York City office, reporting to Brian Goshen, Endurance’s chief administrative officer.
Engel joins Endurance from Liberty International Underwriters where he served as chief claims officer for the Americas for the past five years and, prior to that, in a similar role for Zurich North America for six years. Engel began his career at Cigna Property & Casualty, where he held leadership roles with increasing responsibility before being promoted to senior vice president and chief claims officer for North America in 1985. He then assumed the role of executive vice president and chief claims officer at ACE USA when they acquired the Cigna business.
