People Moves: Allianz X, Chubb, CNA, MEMIC
The recently established unit Allianz X has won Peter Borchers to become CEO as of October 1, 2016. Peter Borchers is one of the most experienced and highly respected leaders in the area of corporate incubation and corporate start-up collaboration. He will join Allianz from hub:raum/Deutsche Telekom.
Allianz X is one of the key pillars of the Digital Transformation strategy of Allianz Group and represents the company builder and venturing unit. Allianz X will be identifying, building and globally scaling new business models in the InsurTech space with the highest degree of entrepreneurial freedom. Allianz X helps building companies that serve and improve the lives of customers and can have impact on a global scale.
Tom Harris has been appointed executive vice president, Global Services for Chubb North America. In his new role, Harris will have worldwide responsibility for the delivery of commercial insurance solutions and services for global clients of all sizes. Additionally, he will be responsible for oversight and development of Worldview, Chubb’s online portal that currently provides more than 16,000 risk managers and brokers with tools and insight to manage their global insurance programs.
Harris will report to Chris Maleno, senior vice president, Chubb Group, and division president, Chubb North America Major Accounts and Joseph S. Clabby, vice president, Chubb Group, and division president, Chubb Bermuda and Global Accounts.
Harris has more than 20 years of insurance industry experience and most recently served as a global client executive in Chubb’s North America Major Accounts division. Prior to joining legacy ACE in 2010, he spent 16 years serving in various roles in Financial Reporting, Risk Management, Corporate Strategy and Development and Accounting.
Great American Insurance Group promoted Jason M. Cohen to divisional president of Strategic Comp, succeeding Stephen Rosenthal who will retire at the end of 2016.
Cohen joined Great American in 2006 as divisional vice president and claims counsel and most recently served as divisional executive vice president of Operations for Strategic Comp. Prior to joining Great American, he served as an attorney for the law firms of Keating, Muething & Klekamp and Bingham McCutchen.
CNA announced the appointment of Steve Hernandez as senior vice president, Commercial Risk Control, effective September 26, 2016. In this role, Hernandez will be responsible for the overall strategic direction and leadership of the Commercial Risk Control function, including developing Risk Control products and services that align with CNA’s underwriting strategies for various product lines and customer segments. He will be based in Chicago and will report to Kevin Leidwinger, President and Chief Operating Officer, CNA Commercial.
Hernandez joins CNA with more than 26 years of global property and casualty expertise. Most recently, he served as senior vice president of Global Risk Engineering (Loss Control Services) for Chubb, where he was responsible for creating the strategy and building a global risk engineering value proposition with key stakeholders. He also served on the company’s diversity, senior manager Roundtables, where he was a moderator and presenter for numerous diversity and employee resource group sessions, including the Minority Development Council, Working Parent, Hispanic and LGBT resource groups.
Hernandez succeeds Bill Boyd who announced his retirement earlier this year after 12 years of service at CNA and a successful 38-year career in the insurance industry. He will build on and advance Bill Boyd’s successful positioning of the Risk Control organization as a positive brand differentiator for CNA.
Workers’ compensation specialist The MEMIC Group has announced the appointment of Richard Kordell as safety management consultant. Kordell will join Loss Control Manager Scott Valorose in providing safety training services and advice to MEMIC’s growing customer base in Massachusetts.
With more than 30 years of loss control experience, Kordell has held senior loss control positions at Acadia Insurance, AIG Consultants, Travelers Insurance Company and CIGNA Loss Control Services.
He is a member and past President of the American Society of Safety Engineers, Worcester County Chapter.
