Mitchell Says CCC Patent Lawsuit Has No Merit
On April 22, CCC Information Services, Inc. filed suit against Mitchell International in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois (Eastern Division) alleging that certain Mitchell software products, including UltraMate, infringe on a patent held by CCC. Mitchell says it believes that the lawsuit is utterly without merit.
“We believe that this lawsuit has no basis in fact, ” stated Jim Lindner, chairman and CEO of Mitchell. “We have been developing our own proprietary database analysis and presentation technology for over 20 years. Of all the companies in this industry, Mitchell has the least interest in what CCC develops.”
Lindner also stated that he found it curious that the filing of the lawsuit was the first notice of claim by CCC to Mitchell.
“We are the fastest growing supplier of process automation technology to the insurance claims industry, ” Lindner continued. “Unfortunately, it would seem that some companies would rather litigate than compete but, regardless, we will defend ourselves vigorously against the assertions made in this lawsuit.”
