Ohio Gov. Applauds Cleveland Firm’s Safety Record
Ohio Governor Bob Taft recently visited Avery Dennison’s Cleveland Film Facility in Mentor to highlight National Safety Month and congratulate employees on receiving a federal safety award.
Taft joined Dean Scarborough, Avery Dennison President and COO and Rob Medlock, Cleveland Area Director of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), who presented the Mentor facility with a Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Star Worksite Award.
“The Cleveland Film Facility has an outstanding safety record and today’s award is a credit to every single employee here in Mentor,” said Taft. “During National Safety Month we are raising awareness about how to reduce accidents and ensure the safety of every Ohio worker, and your efforts serve as a model to other Ohio companies.”
The Cleveland Film Facility manufactures Avery Dennison’s Fasson brand of self-adhesive base materials and has a recordable injury rate 64 percent lower than the industry average. The facility has not had a recordable accident in over 220 days and is the first manufacturing site in Lake County to receive the prestigious VPP award.
Avery Dennison is currently celebrating the 50th anniversary of its Fasson brand, which was created at its first Ohio facility in Painesville. Today, Avery Dennison has 18 sites in Northeast Ohio and employs more than 1,800 Ohioans. The Mentor facility has 95 employees with plans to hire 28 more over the next six months.
Taft has declared June National Safety Month in Ohio and is encouraging Ohioans to focus on workplace safety issues and take advantage of safety resources available through the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC).
