Cleveland Man Sentenced on Comp Fraud Charges

The Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) announced a Cleveland man has been sentenced for workers’ compensation fraud.

Jose Santiago was sentenced to three years probation and ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $5,003.08 to BWC.

The BWC’s special investigation unit (SIU) learned of possible fraud by Santiago when the bureau’s automated detection & intelligence team (AD&I) administered a cross match with the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services.

The AD&I reportedly found Santiago was working while receiving workers’ comp benefits and the SIU confirmed he was employed by eight different companies since 1998. Santiago was employed by Reserve Network, Ran Associates, Nautica Queen, JV Corlett, Precision Pump, Amerinns, Goodtime, and TEK Personal.

Santiago was injured on the job April 3, 1998. While working for Krispy Kreme, Santiago sprained his left shoulder. BWC allowed his claim and administered temporary total disability and living maintenance benefits.
