S.D. Attorney General Cautions on Healthcare Scam
South Dakota Attorney General Larry Long is warning South Dakota citizens to be cautious of recent attempts by scam artists to obtain personal identifying information.
The callers reportedly pose as employees of health care facilities or insurance providers and are asking for verification of deceased patients’ social security numbers.
“It is very possible that these callers are obtaining information from recently published obituaries,” said Long. “South Dakota citizens and employees need to proceed with caution when determining who has the right to patient information.”
