Half-Dozen Ohio Employers Noted for Workplace Safety

Ohio Gov. Bob Taft announced this year’s recipients of the Governor’s Excellence in Workers’ Compensation Award (GEA).

The 2005 Governor’s Excellence Awards winners are:

South Shore Control Systems, Perry;
Wyndham Cleveland at Playhouse Square, Cleveland;
Prairie Township, Columbus;
City of Bexley, Bexley;
Norweco, Norwalk;
Rolls Royce Energy, Mount Vernon.

“The Governor’s Excellence Award winners are selected for their unique commitment to workplace safety,” said Tina Kielmeyer, BWC administrator/CEO. “Each of the organizations honored this year have dedicated time and energy to implementing proper safety strategies, and as a result of their hard work, their safety records are unmatched by other employers in their field. I commend them for their dedication to what is truly important; the safety of Ohio’s workers.”

BWC selected six winners were selected from over 288,000 Ohio employers.

A local business organization, such as a chamber of commerce, another state agency or a BWC employee can nominate a business for a Governor’s Excellence in Workers’ Compensation Award. A business may also nominate itself.

Three private state-fund employers are selected; two winners must have fewer than 100 employees, while the other company must employ 100 or more workers. In addition, two awards are given to a public employer and the sixth winner is a self-insuring company.
