McMurtrie Named Chief Claims Officer at Grange Insurance
Peter McMurtrie has joined Columbus, Ohio-based Grange Insurance in the new position of chief claims officer. The company said McMurtrie will focus on three main areas of operation as he begins his new position: transactional excellence, best practices and technology.
McMurtrie defines transactional excellence as being able to maximize the effectiveness of Grange’s claims management strategies while delivering a consistent product to customers no matter where they are throughout the company’s geographic area of operation.
“As for best practices, I anticipate that that as we continue to grow into new states and through other lines of business, we need to identify the claims best practices that will best support these new areas,” he said. “Our third challenge will be to leverage technology tools that streamline the process for our customers and agents that is consistent with the company’s ‘Ease Of Doing Business’ mission.”
McMurtrie is a graduate of the University of South Florida and also holds a Casualty Claims Law Associate degree. Before coming to Grange Insurance, he was vice president of Property Claims for the St. Paul Travelers Companies in Hartford, Conn., where he was the senior executive in charge of property claims nationwide for the number one writer of commercial property and number five writer of homeowners insurance. Before that, he also worked for Progressive Insurance as a claims field manager in Florida.
Grange Mutual Casualty Group, based in Columbus, Ohio, is a $1 billion insurance and financial services provider.
