Kan. Department Ready to Work with Adjusters, Residents in Storm Aftermath
Kansas Insurance Commissioner Sandy Praeger wants citizens to know the Kansas Insurance Department is here to help.
In a statement on Monday morning she said, “The past weekend has been devastating for the state of Kansas and its citizens, but we are a strong and resilient state with a reputation for helping each other. We will pull through this catastrophe and be even better and stronger than before.”
The Kansas Insurance Department worked this past weekend to help prepare for consumer concerns, complaints, and questions. Insurance companies with insured’s in the affected areas have been notified.
*The department is ready to act as liaison between consumers and their insurance carriers.
*The department has current insurance carrier contact information available.
*If a consumer does not remember the insurance company name or have their policy number, but does remember the agent or agency’s name, the department will have current contact information available.
*Deal directly with the claims adjustor from your insurance company.
A Consumer Assistance representative from the Kansas Insurance Department will be available in Haviland from Tuesday afternoon through Friday afternoon. The representative will be able to provide assistance in the form of insurance company and agent contact information as well as answer questions.
The claims’ adjusters for insurance companies are already visible for consumers in Kiowa, Barton, Stafford and Edwards counties. If the individual is having trouble locating the adjuster, please contact the Consumer Assistance Division at 1-800-432-2484 and the consumer assistance representatives will take the necessary contact information for the consumer and relay the information to the insurance company, agent or adjuster. In addition, the state of Kansas does not recognize public adjusters. Deal directly with the claims adjuster from your insurance company.
“Our department has talked with many of the companies who have customers in the damaged areas. We are encouraged that they are providing immediate cash assistance for temporary housing and other essentials. Some companies report that they have already filed claims on behalf of a majority of their affected customers. Kansans who have any difficulty or confusion with their insurance needs should contact the Kansas Insurance Department.” said Praeger.
