Indiana High Schoolers Have Healthier Habits but More Carry Guns
A survey of Indiana high school students shows they generally have healthier habits than their peers two years ago but more are carrying guns.
The Youth Risk Behavior Survey questioned about 2,300 students in grades 9 through 12 at public high schools across Indiana earlier this year on alcohol and drug use, nutrition and weight, physical activity, sex, tobacco use and violence.
Significantly fewer students are overweight, smoke cigarettes, watch television three or more hours on school days or made plans to commit suicide.
But the number of students who said they had carried a gun during the previous month rose to about 9 percent from less than 6 percent.
