Fire Burns Tons of Cardboard at Iowa Recycling Site
Officials said a fire at an Iowa City recycling site has burned about 60 tons of cardboard.
A nearby street was temporarily closed and MidAmerican Energy was called to cut off overhead power lines.
Officials say the fire involved more than 100 bales of cardboard, with each bale weighing about 1,200 pounds. The bales were valued at a total of $10,000.
Employees reportedly used forklifts to separate the bales as fire crews extinguished the smoldering cardboard. The burned material was being loaded into trucks and hauled to a landfill for disposal.
The investigation continues into what caused the fire.
