Minnesota Man Injured While Setting Up for Disaster Drill
Authorities say a 43-year-old Detroit Lakes man was seriously injured while helping set up an emergency scenario for a disaster drill.
The Becker County Sheriff’s Office said Michael Smith was pinned between a wrecker truck and a tree and had to be airlifted to a Twin Cities hospital.
Smith was volunteering for the drill by using his wrecker truck to tip over an RV for an emergency scenario. That’s when his truck began rolling backward down a slight incline.
Authorities say he tried to jump into the truck to stop it when he became pinned between the wrecker and a tree.
