Iowa Closes Old Bridge for Safety
Officials in Burlington, Iowa are closing a 112-year-old bridge to vehicles because of the slight possibility it could collapse.
The Cascade Bridge on South Main Street will remain open to motorists.
The city closed the bridge because of deterioration, including rusted connections and disintegrating concrete.
Public Works Director Ron Knoke noted that the bridge spans a 100-foot drop-off.
Replacing the bridge could cost as much as $4 million.
