3 Michigan Men Accused of Hiding Deaths for Annuity
Authorities say three Michigan brothers hid their parents’ deaths so they could collect more than $400,000 in insurance annuities.
Forty-six-year-old Donald Tremain Jr. of Wyoming, 43-year-old Anthony Tremain of Grand Rapids and 50-year-old half-brother Randall Banks of Genesee County were charged last month with mail fraud and conspiracy in Grand Rapids federal court.
The Grand Rapids Press reports Donald Tremain Sr. died in 1990 and his wife died in 1995, and payment related to an injury Tremain Sr. had should have ended in 1997.
Anthony Tremain’s lawyer says his client was surprised by the charges. Tremain Jr. pleaded not guilty, and a not guilty plea was entered on Anthony Tremain’s behalf. A message seeking comment was left Saturday with Banks’ lawyer.
