Green Bay Woman Faces 5-Year Prison Term in Arson Case

A woman accused in a scheme to burn down her Green Bay grocery store and collect insurance for about $794,000 in losses faces five years in federal prison.

U.S. District Judge William Griesbach sentenced Mayneng “May” Xiong for mail fraud, but he noted that arson was what drove the case. He also ordered $111,025 in restitution.

Xiong, who pleaded guilty to mail fraud, and her son allegedly plotted to burn TMX May’s Supermarket. The fire in January 2006 also destroyed documents authorities wanted for an investigation into food stamp fraud.

Mayneng’s son, Pao Xiong, has been convicted of conspiracy to commit fraud, arson, mail fraud, arson in connection to a federal crime, witness intimidation and two counts of making false statements to federal agents. His sentencing is Feb. 9.
