Report: Social Security Numbers on Iowa Secretary of State Site
A link to the Iowa Secretary of State’s Web site has been closed down after it was discovered that Social Security numbers of hundreds of business officials were accessible by the public.
That’s according to a story published Aug. 8 in The Des Moines Register.
The newspaper reports that more than 2,000 Social Security numbers were found in corporation reports that had been made to the office before 2000. The reports had been added to the Web site.
The information was taken down Aug. 7.
Secretary of State Michael Mauro says the situation will be addressed and acted on accordingly.
Earlier this year, a Web site that published land documents was shut down after Iowans’ Social Security numbers were found on the site.
