Group Buying Flood-Prone Property in Northern Ohio
A group trying to prevent repeated floods in one northwest Ohio town is using $300,000 in state money to buy seven flood-prone properties.
The land in Findlay will either be used to build walls or earthen levees or turned into green space. Some homes will need to be demolished.
Flood prevention has become a top priority in Findlay along the Blanchard River after a catastrophic flood in August 2007 forced hundreds of residents to evacuate.
The river that flows through the center of town has overflowed its banks at least 10 times in two years.
As many as 45 properties may be needed to put in flood control measures.
