Snow May Have Spurred Collapse of Ohio Wall That Smashed 10 Cars
An aging 10-foot-high retaining wall collapsed in the Cincinnati, Ohio, suburbs, damaging 10 cars and pushing another about 10 feet. Excessive snow may have contributed to the wall’s failure.
Officials of the Cedar Hill Condominiums in Green Township west of Cincinnati the weight of weekend snow might have spurred the collapse. They say the condo board had recently been discussing raising fees to replace the wall.
A condo official’s Ford Focus was totaled; damage estimates for the other vehicles weren’t immediately known.
Ohio roads were buried under a foot of snow over the weekend and forecasters say another winter storm could leave the state with another deep coating of white.
The National Weather Service put most Ohio counties under a winter storm watch. Expected snowfall totals through Feb. 10 range from up to six inches in Cincinnati to as much as a foot in Toledo, Cleveland and Youngstown.
