Natural Gas Blamed for Ohio House Explosion
Investigators believe it was a natural gas explosion that tore apart a suburban Ohio home and damaged at least 20 others, but they’re not sure what sparked the blast.
No one was seriously hurt. The family that lives in the house that blew up in Concord Township east of Cleveland was away when their $640,000 home was destroyed on June 20.
Concord Township Fire Chief Mike Warner says authorities are in the process of ruling things out as they try to determine whether the explosion was purely an accident or suspicious.
So far, investigators have found there was no problem with the gas lines running to the house. Dogs were sent sniffing through the rubble and found no evidence of accelerants or explosives.
Neighbors in the community about 30 miles east of Cleveland say the impact of the explosion felt like an earthquake or a cannon going off. Debris was scattered throughout the area, including in the trees. Windows and garage doors on nearby homes were blown in.
