Arson Ruled in Fire That Destroyed Southern Indiana Church

Investigators say someone intentionally set the fire that destroyed a small church in rural southern Indiana.

Firefighters found the Grandview Apostolic Church engulfed in flames by the time they arrived at the scene in southeastern Brown County about 5 a.m. on July 14. The fire completely gutted the inside of the white, wood-frame church and its roof and steeple collapsed, leaving only some of the exterior walls standing.

The state fire marshal’s office ruled it an arson but didn’t give details of how it was set. No injuries were reported.

The pastor’s wife, Sheila Miller, said that the 45 members hope to rebuild the church, which was formed in 1892.
