Insurance to Help Replace Police Station Ruined by Ohio Twister
A northwest Ohio police station destroyed by a tornado last month will be rebuilt in hopes of opening in the fall of next year.
Lake Township trustees voted night to use an estimated $1.7 million in insurance money to replace the township administration building, which housed the police department and other offices.
The building was in the path of a tornado with winds up to 175 mph that struck the area near Toledo on June 5. Six people were killed.
The trustees plan to include a storm memorial in the new administration building and are currently taking designs and bids.
The old police headquarters will be demolished in coming weeks.
Several police cruisers left mangled by the tornado will be used for car-crash rescue training.
