Ohio Physician Convicted on Felony Charges, Including Insurance Fraud
Ohio Department of Insurance Director Mary Jo Hudson reported that Dr. Stacey Royal of Perrysburg, Ohio, has been convicted of multiple felony counts, including insurance fraud, telecommunications fraud, theft and engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity.
An investigation revealed that from 2004 to 2009, Dr. Royal operated the Royal Treatment Urgent Care in Perrysburg, and billed insurance carriers in excess of $900,000 for inflated services or services never provided. She received more than $100,000 in payments as the result of her fraudulent billing practices.
Dr. Royal was indicted on November 5, 2009 and pled guilty to all charges on Aug.t 19, 2010. Her sentencing will be held Oct. 22, 2010 in the Wood County Court of Common Pleas.
The Wood County Prosecutor’s Office was responsible for the prosecution of the case.
