Feds OK Nearly $43M in Flood Aid for Illinois
Federal officials have approved nearly $43 million in disaster assistance for seven Illinois counties hit by recent flooding.
Carroll, Cook, DuPage, Jo Daviess, Ogle, Stephenson and Winnebago counties had major flooding from July 22 through Aug. 7.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency has finished more than 16,000 home inspections. And the agency has gotten more than 21,500 applications for assistance.
Disaster Recovery Centers are open in Freeport, Cicero and Westchester.
A federal disaster declaration means the counties are eligible for funds to help residents and municipalities to recover.
Grants can be used for temporary housing and home repair and low-cost loans.
FEMA is urging effected residents and business owners to apply for aid.
