Fire in Ohio Destroys Historic Flea Market
A massive fire has gutted a large, historic retail building in eastern Ohio.
The fire at the Garver Flea Market in Strasburg was first reported around 11 p.m. on Oct. 13 and drew scores of firefighters from more than 15 departments in the area. No injuries were reported.
WEWS-TV reports the flea market, about 60 miles south of Cleveland, was housed in a 120,000-square-foot building once operated as the “World’s Largest Country Store” by a family named Garver.
The website for the business says the building went up in 1866 and is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. The store closed in 1970; the flea market opened nine years later.
There was no immediate word on the fire’s cause.
