OSHA Fines Chicago Bakery Firm
A suburban Chicago manufacturer of bakery products has been fined for failing to train workers and protect them from safety hazards.
The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration has cited Schiller Park-based Interstate Brands Corp. with 20 alleged safety violations.
The workplace safety agency says the employer failed to properly train workers who operate powered industrial trucks. The agency says Interstate Brands also failed to protect workers from electrical shock hazards and dangerous high-speed rotating equipment.
OSHA has proposed penalties totaling $274,500.
A spokeswoman for Interstate Brands says the company takes safety seriously and looks forward to discussing the merits of the alleged violations with OSHA.
