Parents of Injured Illinois Boy Sue Aluminum Bat Maker
A Will County, Ill., couple are suing a manufacturer of aluminum baseball bats for injuries their 11-year-old son suffered when he was struck in the head by a ball last spring.
The Chicago Tribune reports that in the lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Chicago, Robert and Cheryl Schutter of Mokena contend that Easton-Bell Sports Inc. produced bats capable of hitting baseballs at dangerous speeds.
Easton-Bell is an official equipment supplier to Little League Baseball.
The Schutters say their son, Jake, was pitching in a game in Mokena last may when he was struck in the head by a line drive. They say he suffered brain damages and deafness in his left ear.
No one was available for comment at Easton-Bell’s headquarters in Van Nuys, Calif.
