Illinois Construction Worker Killed in Hospital Accident

Authorities in the Chicago suburb of Glenview say a construction worker from Indiana was killed when he was struck by a metal beam at the site of a new medical office building at Glenbrook Hospital.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office tells the Chicago Tribune that the man killed in the Feb. 9 accident has been identified as 43-year-old Kenneth Puplava, of Portage, Ind.

Glenview Fire Chief Wayne Globerger says emergency personnel called to the scene found that Puplava had been struck by a steel beam, but was not trapped underneath it. He was taken inside the hospital’s emergency room, where he was pronounced dead.

Puplava has been working on a new, three-story medical office building that is part of a $100 million expansion of the hospital.
