Child Playing with Lighter Led to Nebraska Duplex Fire
A Lincoln, Nebraska fire official says a child playing with a lighter started a fire that damaged her family’s duplex.
The fire broke out Wednesday afternoon. No injuries were reported. Rick Campos of the Bureau of Fire Prevention told the Lincoln Journal Star that another child heard a smoke detector and alerted the rest of the family about 1 p.m.
Officials say when firefighters arrived, the fire had mostly suffocated itself and was smoldering in a bedroom in the basement.
The fire was limited to the one unit and caused about $75,000 damage.
