Indiana’s Purdue University to Replace Damaged Court
Heavy rains have forced Purdue to replace the floor at Mackey Arena.
Purdue spokesman Tom Schott said storms the nights of May 25 and 26 allowed water into an area where construction already was taking place and wound up damaging Keady Court. He says the school considered repairing it but determined that it needed to be replaced. The floor is insured.
Schott said Tuesday that the floor hasn’t been replaced since the late 1990s. He said the school had planned to repaint it next year.
The arena already was closed for the summer for a $99.5 million renovation project. Athletic director Morgan Burke said Monday that the project is on track.
Schott said the arena will be ready in time for the start of basketball practice in October.
